Date of Running: Sunday 22/12/2019

Venue: Kastorios of Laconia Municipality of Sparta (Kastori is located on Taygetos-20km from Sparta. When you enter Sparta from Athens, at the intersection of Sparta Hospital, there is a sign that says Kastori, Gogori, Kastori. to the right of the sign and after 20 km you will find Kastori (on this road you will not turn anywhere). Or alternatively from the new Lefktros – Sparta road (turn left at Pellanas) and follow the signs to Kastorion!

Time: 10.00am for the Half Marathon, 10.30am for the 5.5km race, 10.40am the 1km race for primary and secondary school children. All starts will be on the main street of Kastorio, outside the church.

MOUNTAIN SEMI MARATHON INFORMATION

Route Information: The mountain half-marathon will begin and end at the same spot – on the main road of Kastorio opposite the church. The mountain half-marathon route is 22,400 meters and for the most part it consists of trails that are signposted and will be marked as best as possible so that runners will not be lost during the race. Of these 22,400 meters, 1,000 meters are asphalt, 5,400 meters are dirt road, and finally the trails are 16,000 meters. So percent reductions in route configuration are:

paths: 71.75%

asphalt: 4.48%

road dirt forest: 23.77%

Elevation profiles:

You start at about 440 meters and reach 1,434 meters, then end at 440 meters wherever you go (see attached map)

Time: 10.00am

Race safety:

Along the way there will be specialized people and rescuers, so that there will be no problem during the race, wherever and whenever needed. There will also be a network of Wireless Laconia, where with their wireless, they will immediately and timely update, whenever and wherever needed.

Runners involved in the race: Anyone who has reached the age of 17 and has recently undergone the necessary medical examinations to determine that they are in good health. We recommend that runners who are not experienced in mountain racing be excluded, as at some points the route has increased difficulty and will require further increased skills in mountain racing. All participants will sign a responsible statement before the race, that they are healthy and running at their own risk!

OLYMPUS MARATHON Points: The race, after consultation with the OLYMPUS Marathon Organizing Committee, gives the respective points based on the results of each runner in the race, so that he / she can pick the appropriate points to participate in the OLYMPUS MARATHON. At the end of the race, the results will be sent to the Organizing Committee of OLYMPUS MARATHON in order to find the molecules that correspond to each one.

Power: There will be 6 power points on the route. These are the following:

1) Agios Mamas at 5th km (altitude 500m)

2) Lata position at 8.5 km (980 m altitude)

3) Lusina at 11,7th km (1,117m altitude)

4) Ammous (substation)

5) Location of Agios Nikolaos at 14.9th km (1,407m altitude)

6) Lata position at 18.3 km (980 m altitude)

7) Agios Mamas at 21.8o km (500m altitude)

Refueling points will be water, isotonic, raisins and salty snacks.

Medical – Wireless Coverage: There will be experienced rescuers as well as a doctor on the race track, while Kastori will have an ambulance on hand if needed. The race is also covered by a dedicated radio station to keep track of the race at any time for any need. There will also be nursing staff, physiotherapists as well as a fire truck.

Time limit: The race has an exclusion time of 5 hours (until 15:00).

Runners are required to stay at the starting point of the race up to one hour before the start of the race (at 09.00).

Prizes and gifts: All participants will receive a rare and original medal. Cups will be given to the top 3 men and top 3 women in the general category, as well as the following age categories:

Men:

-17 – 29 years old

-30-39 years old

-40-49 years old

-50-59 years old

-60 & up

WOMEN:

-17 – 39 years old

-40-59 years old

-60 & up

A cup will be given to the first and special silver and bronze medals to the second and third respectively and special prizes will be given.

Cost of participation: The race is offered free of charge by the competent authorities and does not require any participation costs.

Race Timing: There will be electronic timing in the race with a timing chip mounted on the leg. After the race this chip is returned.

RACE INFORMATION 5.5km KASTORA RIVER PROJECTION

And this year for the 3rd year, the 5.5km race will be held again. with the name: 3rd KASTORA RIVER DISPLAY RACE!

Route Information: The 5.5km race will start half an hour after the start of the big race so that there is no crowding in the gorge in the first kilometers! In essence, this small race moves entirely on part of the main race track, and it does not deviate at all other than the big race! Runners are invited to follow the same route as the Grand Race, up to Agios Mamas, at the 5th km, where they will take the main provincial road Sparti – Kastoriou, which they will then follow to terminate at the main square where they started. ! The route is mixed terrain, with asphalt in the first 500m. as well as the last 500m, and in the meantime you will move along the river Kastoras, on dirt roads with soft leafy maple trees!

Elevation profiles:

In this race, there is no high altitude profile, as you will avoid moving into the main mountain range of Taygetos. You start at about 440 meters and reach 500 meters, then end at 440 meters again.

Runners participating in the race: Anyone who has reached the age of 15 – as you understand including high school students – who have recently undergone the necessary medical examinations to determine that they are in good health may participate in the race. In this race you do not need to have any special experience in mountain racing as the rough and dangerous paths disappear. All participants will sign a responsible statement before the race, that they are healthy and running at their own risk!

Catering: There will be 1 catering point on the route to Agios Mamas at 5 km (500 m).

Time limit: The race has a 1 ½ hour time limit – until 12:00

Runners are required to stay at the starting point of the race up to one hour before the start of the race (at 09.00).

GENERAL RACE INFORMATION

Before the race: The Organizing Committee will offer you a light breakfast and Taygetos tea before the race for free!

After the race: After the race will be offered to runners who will attend a free winter meal featuring the excellent local bean soup as well as local wine, by the Organizing Committee together with the competent bodies, with the care of the ladies of Kastoria and of the Friends of the North Taygetos Association “I LUSINA”, while anyone who wishes can sit in one of the taverns of the village, if he wants to taste more than the local dishes!

BIB Number Division: The race secretariat will operate at the Friends of Taygetos’ Friends Club “Lusina” in the following days and hours:

-On Saturday 21/12/2019 from 15.00-19.30

-On Sunday the race day, from 07.45

Runners are required to stay at the starting point of the race up to one hour before the start of the race (at 09.00).

Locker rooms – Athletes’ Storage: In the vicinity of the start-finish center in the center of the village, runners will be able to change, and they can safely store their belongings at their own risk.

ROUTE TOUR: This year there will be an organized excursion from Athens ON THE SAME DAY! This excursion will take place on the day of the race (22/12/2019) and will start again at Karaiskaki Square (Metaxourgio) at 05.00. To make a reservation you can indicate it at the special analogue point on the registration form. The cost of the excursion is € 15.00, and in order to complete your reservation, you will have to deposit this amount up to 19/12 in the PIRAEUS Bank account to complete the reservation at the PIRAEUS Bank Account: 5073-063798-547

The excursion will return from Kastori on 16.15 and after all the events of the race have ended.

Athletes Accommodation in Hotels: Those friends who wish to come to Kastori from previous days, can stay at the hotels of neighboring Georgitsi, since unfortunately there are no longer accommodations in Kastori, or they can stay in Sparta where there are several options.

Or you can stay in one of the hotels in Sparta, which is about 20 km from Kastori

Free accommodation in Suede: On the year again our competitions, we have secured for whoever wants to have free accommodation at Suede, AND SPECIFICALLY IN PRIMARY SCHOOL neighboring village of Castro – THE located just one kilometer from the SUEDE! In this house you can sleep on your own, come from Friday morning 20/12/2019 and stay until Sunday evening 22/12/2019! Of course, sleeping bags (mattresses, sheets, duvets, etc.) should be with you, since we cannot provide them! Of course there are toilets in this house!

Alternative route in case of bad weather:
In the event of severe weather (heavy rainfall) and because the safety of the athletes is above all, the race will NOT be canceled, but will take place on an alternate route in the mountains, but on forest roads, where they guarantee your safety, and you will not run no risk. This route will take you from Kastorio Square to Lousina and return 20.55 km back – but in any case you will run out of chances in the beautiful Half Marathon Trails. The final decision in case of bad weather will be made by the Organizing Committee at the last minute.

In any case, this race will take place, at least on the alternate route!

CHILDREN’S RACE

This year there will be a Primary-Gymnasium children’s race

1) 1km Race for Primary – High School Kids: It will start at 10.40am. and will make the route Kastoriou Square – Agios Mamas – Kastoriou Square, and all boys and girls who go to Primary and Secondary Schools can participate in it.

All children will be given a commemorative medal while they will NOT be given a cup for the first children, as we consider that all the children participating in street races are all the same and we do not spend them in the cup.

GAME AND ALL Together We Can – FOOD COLLECTION

This year the Kastorian Mountain Half Marathon of Taygetos is being done with the contribution of ALL Together! So while we maintain your free participation in the race, however, your ONLY ” OBLIGATION ” is to offer long-term food that will be donated to the Holy See of Monemvasia and Sparta! EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATES, BUT ALSO AND VISITORS, if they so desire, CAN CONTRIBUTE TO LONG LIFE FOODS WHICH THEY CAN DO WHEN THEY CAN If you get them from the local market of Kastoria you will certainly be able to save them from afar, thus supporting the foundations of the Holy Metropolis!
