On Sunday, April 11, 2021, the Ionas Association – Department of Therapeutic Education and Sports for the Disabled organized a day of action for the disabled athletes of its team.
As part of the virtual race “Ionas VR Race” held under the auspices of OAKA, with the support of the region and the “be active” of the General Secretariat of Sports, the athletes of IONA gathered at the central stadium of OAKA and ran 5km.
This symbolic “race” of athletes was dedicated to the memory of the President of the Sports Federation of People with Disabilities, Georgios Fountoulakis, who recently passed away.
It is important to note that during this action the health protocols were strictly observed, constituting a mixed test for the new era of safe racing until the end of the pandemic.
The event was attended by the General Manager of OAKA Mr. Konstantinos Halioris representing the Deputy Minister of Sports Mr. Lefteris Avgenakis, the Deputy Regional Governor of the North Attica Mrs. Loukia Kefalogianni, the Sports Advisor Mr. Periteparistas Perifaristas A the new President of EAOM – Disabled Mrs. Ioanna Karyofylli and the curator of National teams Mr. Konstantinos Xiarchos.
Along with the athletes of the club, the bronze paralympian of Rio in the ball Dimitra Korokida also took part.
The safe conduct of the fight was supervised by a team of the civil protection team of the Municipality of Maroussi.
Finally, the company Vikos offered the athletes water and soft drinks.

In the last 200 meters, together with Christos Koromilas and his companion, the athlete of the club, Alexis Koutselos, finished the race.
